Resumen

There is limited information on the effects of supplementing goat bucks with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) on their semen quality and sexual behavior. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of supplementing goat bucks with S. cerevisiae yeast on variables related to ejaculate quality and sexual behavior. The goat bucks were assigned to one of two treatments: Control and S. cerevisiae supplementation. Yeast supplementation increased (P < 0.05) sperm concentration, the number of motile sperm, sperm with progressive motility, and membrane integrity, but reduced reaction time compared to the Control group. Variables related to sexual behavior, live weight, scrotal circumference, sire odor, mass motility, ejaculate pH, volume, as well as the number of live and normal sperm were not affected (P ≥ 0.05) by yeast supplementation. In conclusion, supplementing goat bucks with S. cerevisiae yeast improves ejaculate quality but does not affect their sexual behavior.
